After Disaster Strikes: The Long Way to Recovery

A new article by EDRC Research Associate, Louisa Nachtmann, highlights the long-term effects of natural disasters especially those linked to climate change and extreme weather events. These effects include higher than normal mortality rates after disasters occur and long-term impacts on physical and mental health as well as social-economic disruptions which can last for decades not just months. The article also points to efforts to better understand and reduce the long-term consequences of natural disasters as well as the need for further research and enhanced adaptation strategies.
