The Environment & Development Resource Centre (EDRC) was established in 1991 as an international  non-profit non-governmental organisation to contribute to the achievement of global sustainable development that is environmentally sound, socially just and respectful of cultural diversity.

The Centre acts as an independent 'honest broker,' commissioning and carrying out innovative studies and promoting cooperation between environment, development, and peace movements, between researchers and activists, and between civil society and policymakers.

We strive to play a catalytic role to stimulate new initiatives to redress shortcomings in the international policy making process for Integrating Development, Environment and Security (IDEAS).

Our  IDEAS programme brings together a unique multidisciplinary group of more than 300 experts and organisations from around the world - each with their own extensive networks – all actively engaged in interdependent solutions to the interdependent issues of development, environment and security. Together, we especially work to make meaningful contributions to research, dialogue and actions on the nexus between climate change and international, regional, national, human and environmental security.
